Welcome to the new home of LFC Racing!

LFC Racing started out back in 2002 as a small snowmobile racing team operating out of the back of a truck. Over the years it progressed to a full blown multi-sport race team with Matt Holmes being its main rider piloting Ski-Doos in the professional ranks of hillcross, snocross, and hill climb competitions as well as some ATV motocross and ice racing in any remaining free time. There was a short hiatus from racing from 2010-2014, but now the team is back in action and looking to expand to other riders as well as promoting some non racing activities with a kick ass YouTube channel dedicated to the motorsports we love.

The Garage

This is a little section dedicated to the toys we’ve accumulated over the years, and the garages where Matt spends all his free time. A special thanks goes out to Mike for building the first garage, and letting Matt take it over until he had a few of his own, and also for helping us fund our expensive habits and toys.

The Offseason

When we’re not racing: you’ll still usually find us outdoors. We love spending all of our free time outside, whether it’s fishing, hunting, boating, jetskiing: we enjoy the four diverse seasons that Minnesota provides us with.

If you’re friends with either of us on Facebook, chances are you’ve already seen a few of our escapades. If not, here’s just a sampling of what we spend the offseason doing:

In spring, we are usually cursing the snow melt. Not only does it mark the end of the snowmobiling season, it also marks the end of ice fishing. But, it does mean that the soft-water fishing season is about to start! Early spring you can usually find us up on the Rainy River, fishing for sturgeon. Once walleye season is open, you’ll find us on Vermilion and Matt usually makes a few trips up to Canada for walleye and lake trout.

In summer, you’ll find us out on our stand up jetskis or out on a boat. We love summer about as much as we love winter. We’ve been known to frequent the lakes around Duluth but will be seen on Lake Vermilion more often in the future. We can also be found fishing and camping.

In the fall, we’re all about hunting seasons. Ducks, geese, pheasants and grouse keep us occupied until deer season, when we spend every waking moment out in our stands. We’ve got 40 acres that we hunt on, along with areas that our families have hunted for years.

Throughout the year, we enjoy traveling – usually to go fishing in random places. We’ve also been known to go on crazy day trips for craigslist purchases… Oh, you found a Deere in southern Wisconsin? Let’s go! Or: Hey, there’s this sled in Marquette… let’s drive there and back after work tonight!

Whatever time of year it is, we’re usually off on some crazy adventure. And we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Special Thanks

Dad: I would not have been able to get in to racing without your help, financially or logistically. You’re always on top of getting reservations, driving to the races, knowing what the weather is supposed to be like, and everything else that I’d forget to do. You also run around a lot on race day with the jack stand and gas cans and make sure I’m the right spot at the right time. Thanks Dad, there’s no way I could race without you.

Mom: Even though you’re not the happiest that I race, you still show up and take amazing photographs and bring wonderful food into the trailer. You may hide behind the camera lens but I always appreciate your support and everyone loves your photos and cookies.

Alan Strange and Jon Esselink (NAPALM/Community Health Associates): You guys have been extremely generous to me over my entire racing career. Without your help, I would have never had nearly as nice of equipment every year. Thank you for all of your support.

Les Harkonen: You’re responsible for turning me into the gearhead I am today. You’ve helped me out with so many things over the years it’d be impossible to try to thank you for all of them. You always keep me on my toes and thinking about how to get faster, and make everything I own into a sweet one off custom. Thank you.

Kimberly Holmes: We may have met long ago, but it wasn’t until you approached me offering “website help” that we really got to know each other and well, the rest is history. Thank you for putting up with the countless hours I spend in the garage, the random road trips for craigslist purchases and supporting me every step of the way. You are a truly amazing wife.
